Can you believe this..3 posts in one day...and it is grey and rainy and cold outside...I should be wallowing in heaviness..instead I'm just overflowing with sharing...just drop me a line telling me "Enough now!"
Anyway, this I HAVE to share. You know it must be from Beth Moore's study, right?
Ok...she was talking about Christ washing the disciples' feet and the lesson that He was teaching about ongoing cleansing and servanthood. Then Christ commanded them to wash one another's feet. (John 13:14). She then went on to give seven reasons why we have difficulty with this concept:(Beth Moore, A Woman's Heart, God's Dwelling Place, p.86-87) (I'll just mention one for now and comment...)
1. We lack the assurance of who we are...Jesus knew His position with His Father. He had nothing to prove; therefore He was not humiliated by humility...We are coheirs with Christ (Rom.8), so if you know who you are in Christ, your personal ego is not an issue.
-----So this speaks to me in the context of a visible minority female immigrant here. There are just some people you meet who have made these ummm..negative demeaning assumptions about you..and they want only to 'put you in your place'...and you just want to..well...let them know in no uncertain way just how 'accomplished' you really are and what your umm...'place' is...[with a few choice words about their place as well]...so that's why God's been teaching me to value His opinion of me, my 'position' in Him...until 'their' opinions or treatment, good or bad, no longer matters...check my second post on this blog...but it will take a long time..transformation takes its time...
So the rest of Beth's points are gems as well...but so as not to overload you and allow you to dwell on this one thought..I'll leave it for later....
Father, help us to know who we are in You so that the 'voices' of this world gradually grow dimmer and dimmer until all we hear is Your Voice saying, "You are my beloved..."Thank You, Father. Amen.
