Feeding the mind. What feeds your mind? Television? Internet surfing? Think about it. Do you not think it is affecting you? Desensitizing you in different areas?
My prayer from Psalm 119:37 is: Father, "Turn my eyes away from worthless things; preserve my life according to your word."
What feeds our mind eventually comes out through our mouth. Beth talks about the need to control what we put in our mouths and what we send out. 1 Corinthians 10:31 says, "So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God." Beth pinpoints the principle of freedom to eat only that which is beneficial to the body, which will bring glory to God.
James describes the tongue as a 'raging fire'. What does a raging fire do? It brings warmth with its heat. It also consumes everything in its path. What it burns, it scars for a lifetime. How many of us have scars from words hurled at us? How many of us have hurled words that have left scars on others? Let our prayer be taken from Ephesians 4:29, Father, "Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen." Let our words be constructive, not destructive.
But we cannot do this on our own. So the good news is taken from 2 Peter 1: 3-4:
His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. 4Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.
Let us seek Him to empower us by His Spirit to participate in the Divine nature, to let Him control our minds and mouth for His glory.
