The Psalm...or the Shepherd?

I got this in my Inbox this morning from one of my first cyber friends, Mary, who lives in Brunei. It is an anecdote called The Actor. There was no author credited, so if someone knows who wrote this, please let me know.

The Actor
There was once a Shakespearean actor who was known everywhere for his one-man shows of readings and recitations from the classics; He would always end his performance with a dramatic reading of Psalm 23. Each night, without exception, as the actor began his recitation -- "The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want"... the crowd would listen attentively. And then, at the conclusion of the Psalm, they would rise in thunderous applause in appreciation of the actor's incredible ability to bring the verse to life.

But one night, just before the actor was to offer his customary recital of Psalm 23, a young man from the audience spoke up, "Sir, do you mind if tonight I recite Psalm 23?". The actor was quite taken back by this unusual request, but he allowed the young man to come forward and stand front and center on the stage to recite the Psalm, knowing that the ability of this unskilled; youth would be no match for his own talent.

With a soft voice, the young man began to recite the words of the Psalm. When he was finished, there was no applause. There was no standing ovation as on other nights. All that could be heard was the sound of weeping. The audience had been so moved by the young man's recitation that every eye was full of tears.

Amazed by what he had heard, the actor said to the youth, "I don't understand. I have been performing Psalm 23 for years. I have a lifetime of experience and training -- but I have never been able to move an audience as you have tonight. Tell me, what is your secret?"

The young man quietly replied, "Well sir, you might know the Psalm... but I know the Shepherd."

Our challenge as Christian bloggers will be, "Does my blog reflect my Christianese jargon...
or does it reflect I know the Lord? Do my words bring applause because of eloquence..or does it resonate deep in the spirit with truth?"

I invite you to visit Elaine at Peace for the Journey to read how and why our words resonate.

Sing along with an artist whose words and life reflect he knows the Shepherd.

Beautiful story Sita. The difference comes in knowing the Author of the Words and a life that has experienced those truths.

Praying my words reflect the heart of the Shepherd.
Love & prayers,
Joy

would you believe that my devotionals touched on the 23 Psalm today ... coincidence? not with the Lord ...

what the devotional that i read pointed out - was the part about "the Lord IS my Shepherd" ... not was, will be, might be - but IS ...

our God lives in TODAY ... the great I AM ... giving grace for the DAY ... we need not fear tomorrow ...

He IS ... the great I AM ...

blessings on you!

I pray my blog reflects that I know the Lord.
I do a lot of personal journaling for my family and friends who live away so they can see what's going on in my life.
I also pray that I can relate to any and all who come to my blog and that maybe something they see in my life will spur them to know Christ and to have a relationship with Him. I pray everyone can see peace & joy in my life.
Just this morning I was thinking about how blogging can be such a great tool for the Lord.
I was reading on Kelly's Korner (she just had the baby who was critical) and she said people have been saved during this time of their personal experience with their baby almost dying etc.
That's so neat!
I love Keith Green!
Thanks for sharing.
Have a good week. I'm hoping for a little slower paced week with a few at home nights.
Love,
Val

Sita,
Here's the recipe for the fruit pizza:
1 pkg.(tube) of refrigerated sugar cookie dough
Mix 1 8 oz. package of cream cheese, softened &
1 small jar or marshmallow cream together.
fruit of your choice. (I used strawberries, bananas and kiwi)
Press the cookie dough on a pizza pan or cookie sheet.
Cook the cookie dough at 350 degrees for about 9-10 minutes or until golden brown & done.
After the cookie cools spread the cream cheese & marshmallow cream mixture on top of the cookie and add fruit.
*I spray Pam on the pan before pressing the cookie dough.

It's so easy & so good!

That story about reading Psalm 23 gave me goosebumps - what a powerful message, and a great reminder to keep our eyes fixed on Jesus. When I die I want His words to me to be, "Well done, good and faithful servant."
The dreaded words, "I never knew you," will surely shock many who read the Bible but do not go that extra step to know Him.
Your challenge is spot on, that our blogs must reveal our relationship with our Living Saviour, and not promote ourselves.
