Closing off 2009

It's been a strange year for me. There have been momentous highlights like my son's baptism and my sister's mission trip. But for almost half the year, my blogging 'motivation', perhaps inspiration, just fizzled. I lost heart. So I have been seeking God.
Transition? New focus? I asked Him.

No more has been revealed to me except that He wants me in His Word. When I started this blog, I needed a 'safe place' to share my wounded heart. I don't need that anymore.

This year I participated in Beth Moore's Scripture memory challenge (see sidebar). What started as a 'dry' exercise has transformed my attitude to His Word. Indeed, it has become as Psalm 19 says "sweeter than honey and the honeycomb". Only God could do this. His Word is alive.

So I close off 2009 with hope and waiting as I plant myself in His Word and bloom for His glory. I hope you join me. For those who still 'follow' me, I thank you for your faith in me. It means a lot.
God Bless You all.

2009 Beth Moore Scripture Memory Challenge

1. Psalm 1:2-3 (NIV)
But his delight is in the law of the LORD,
and on his law he meditates day and night.
He is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither.
Whatever he does prospers.

2. Matthew 5:8 & Psalm 119:9 (NIV)
Blessed are the pure in heart,
for they will see God.
How can a young man keep his way pure?
By living according to your word.

3. Psalm 119:130 (NKJV)
The entrance of Your words gives light;
It gives understanding to the simple.

4. Psalm 119:18 (NIV)
Open my eyes that I may see
wonderful things in your law.

5. Hebrews 4:12 (NIV)
For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

6. Hebrews 10:23 (NIV)
Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.

7. Psalm 19:14 (ESV)
Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart
be acceptable in your sight,
O LORD, my rock and my redeemer.

8. Psalm 107:9 (NIV)
For he satisfies the thirsty
and fills the hungry with good things.

9. 1 Peter 2:9 (NIV)
But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.

10. Deuteronomy 4:9 (NIV)
Only be careful, and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them slip from your heart as long as you live. Teach them to your children and to their children after them.

11. Psalm 27:1 (NIV)
The LORD is my light and my salvation—
whom shall I fear?
The LORD is the stronghold of my life—
of whom shall I be afraid?

12. 1 Peter 1:18-19 (Amplified Bible)
You must know (recognize) that you were redeemed (ransomed) from the useless (fruitless) way of living inherited by tradition from [your] forefathers, not with corruptible things [such as] silver and gold,
But [you were purchased] with the precious blood of Christ (the Messiah), like that of a [sacrificial] lamb without blemish or spot.

13. Jeremiah 29:12-13 (Amplified Bible)
Then you will call upon Me, and you will come and pray to Me, and I will hear and heed you.
Then you will seek Me, inquire for, and require Me [as a vital necessity] and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.

14. Deuteronomy 31:8 (NIV)
The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged."

15. Psalm 57:2 (NIV)
I cry out to God Most High,
to God, who fulfills {his purpose} for me.

16. Philippians 4:6-7 (NIV)
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

17. Lamentations 3:25 (NIV)
The LORD is good to those whose hope is in him,
to the one who seeks him;

18. Psalm 27:14 (Amplified Bible)
Wait and hope for and expect the Lord; be brave and of good courage and let your heart be stout and enduring. Yes, wait for and hope for and expect the Lord.

19. Psalm 119:45 (NIV)
I will walk about in freedom,
for I have sought out your precepts.

20. Psalm 42:11 (NIV)
Why are you downcast, O my soul?
Why so disturbed within me?
Put your hope in God,
for I will yet praise him,
my Savior and my God.

21. Proverbs 16:20 (NIV)
Whoever gives heed to instruction prospers,
and blessed is he who trusts in the LORD.

22. Psalm 119:38-40 (NIV)
Fulfill your promise to your servant,
so that you may be feared.
Take away the disgrace I dread,
for your laws are good.
How I long for your precepts!
Preserve my life in your righteousness.

23. 2 Corinthians 9:8 (NIV)
And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.

24. Psalm 19: 7-10 (Amplified Bible)
The law of the Lord is perfect, restoring the [whole] person; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.
The precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the Lord is pure and bright, enlightening the eyes.
The [reverent] fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; the ordinances of the Lord are true and righteous altogether.
1More to be desired are they than gold, even than much fine gold; they are sweeter also than honey and drippings from the honeycomb.

Heaven and earth collide...let all the earth rejoice!

"And when I attempted suicide and I didn't succeed, I knew for the first time unconditional love—which God is. God is unconditional love. You are totally loved, totally accepted, just the way you are. In that moment I was not allowed to die, and something happened to me which is very difficult to explain. I had an eternal moment of truth, in which I knew I was loved, and knew I was here for a purpose." (Jill Jackson Miller, author of "Let There be Peace on Earth," describing events in her early life.)

“Eternal moment of truth”—a moment where you know your spirit has just connected with God’s—and you know a satisfaction that defies any human experience—a perfect mixture of unconditional love, joy, beauty, light, hope and wisdom.

"When the completion of the time came [that is: in the fullness of time], God sent his Son, born of a woman" (Galatians 4:4), and in the fullness of time God will "bring everything together under Christ, as head, everything in the heavens and everything on earth" (Ephesians 1:10). It is in the fullness of time that we meet God. (Henri Nouwen)

...At some moments we experience complete unity within us and around us...a captivating view...a birth...in prayer...a moment we want to last forever...an experience of the fullness of time...moments of grace to sustain us when God seems far away and all seems useless...(Thoughts from Henri Nouwen)

God’s mind is revealed in His Word to us and this year He has clearly shown me where my focus is to be as I continually seek Him and thirst for Living Water. I want to be that tree replanted in Eden, blooming for Him, bringing glory to His Name.
As I have been reading through Kings, I was struck by the fact that the mother of the kings was usually noted before the words “and he did what was right in the eyes of the Lord”. It struck me that we as mothers do play an integral part in the spiritual upbringing of our children. When I saw Nathan at 16-yrs-old descending into the waters of baptism to declare to the world his desire to follow Jesus, my spirit soared and I had that ‘eternal moment of truth’ where heaven rejoiced with me. A moment of ‘rightness’.  The fullness of time.
My blogging friend and an informal spiritual mentor to me, Lidia, gave me an extraordinary blessing this year and reinforced the conviction that God desires for me to drink from His Living Water, His Word. In there I will receive the desires of my heart.
Will you join me? Seek Him with all your heart and be satisfied. Have a blessed Christmas and I pray that you may know many eternal moments, when heaven and earth coincide for just a moment, the fullness of time.
Thank you for being my blogging friends.
