Empty pitchers and dirty feet...

I promised to give you more reasons from the Beth Moore study [see last post] why we have such difficulty in obeying the command to "wash one another's feet"--act of cleansing and servanthood. (Beth Moore. A Woman's Heart, God's Dwelling Place, p.86-87)

--2. We don't want to leave the table to do it....We fear leaving the comfort of the familiar.
=> It's easy to relate to this point in this multicultural society where so many ethnic groups with their different cultural habits intermingle. We're afraid to offend or be offended. What do you think?

--3. We would have to lay aside the outer garments...It is difficult to hide when washing another's feet...True servants are only those who are willing to be vulnerable.
=> It's true when I think of those people I can approach or be honest with are those who are transparent themselves. Any thoughts?

--4. All too often, our pitchers are empty...John 13:5..When we fail to be filled, we have nothing to pour out...Be encouraged: the first miracle Christ performed was filling up empty pitchers...
=> Is this why I find myself singing more times than I care to remember, "Fill my cup, Lord, I lift it up, Lord, Come and quench this thirsting of my soul, Bread of Heaven, feed me till I want no more, Fill my cup, Fill it up and make me whole..." It is so true, though, isn't it..let the Master fill your pitchers...

--5. We do not like feet...They are smelly and dirty...Facing the worn, calloused areas of others' lives might remind us of our own...
=> Yep, point taken...need to deal with our wounds...for with the comfort we are given we are then equipped to comfort others....
[the rest later]..

Father, please give us the faith to walk outside our comfort zone to embrace Your purpose, please grant us transparent hearts and empower us with Your Spirit to minister to others. Please help us to confront and have Your grace poured on our own pain. Help us, Lord. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
